Calendar Artwork

This term we have been experimenting with different medium in art.  

First we designed a sporting icon relating to our Olympics theme.  

Then we had the challenge of making a cardboard image of our icon.  

Finally we printed this image using ink.  

This process took some weeks of perseverance ... a good quality relating to challenges.  

The children were pleased with their results.

Biographies

Last week we looked at some famous New Zealanders ... Challenges they have faced and overcome.  We focused on facts and wrote biographies.  Here are some finished biographies for you to enjoy. 

Badminton!

This term we had a great challenge of learning new skills in badminton.  We learnt correct raquet grip, serving techniques and the right foot moves.  It was very worthwhile and heaps of fun!

The 14th Report

Earlier this term we looked at report writing to support our interest in the Olympics and the challenges competitors were facing.  We had a crack at turning these reports into a 'class rag'.  Here's what we came up with.

Sr Rachel Myriam Skype

Earlier this term we skyped Sr Rachel Myriam in the Philippines.  She is a Sister in the Order Missionaries of Mary.  The purpose of our skype was to ask her about her Vocation in the Holy Order, 1 of the 7 sacraments we were learning about at the time.  (Can you remember the other 6?!)  She showed us her habit and explained reasons and symbolism relating to her garb.

We also asked her about challenges she faces.  One was certainly the weather ... the police were getting around Manilla in boats during the latest flooding.  The weather was also a challenge for us because it wiped out our skype connection!  But what a great experience it was was for us :)
Sr Rachel Myriam's main message was that we are ALL called to Holiness.

Animation Challenge

The children were given a challenge to make an animation using 3 characters and their own choice of background.  It had to tell a story because we are focusing on narrative texts in reading and writing. Here's a sample of the first ones finished.

Our first focus centred on the Olympics.  We have written great Acrostic poems... here's a sample...

Culture Day

We had a great time dressing in various cultural costumes and explaining about them. We also joined in a dance. Mrs Hepi has some great videos of this on her blog. You can Google the school website and go to Senior school, then click on her blog.
